The funds will go towards the building of a day room at the planned Teenage Cancer Trust unit at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Phil Sheridan, UK Managing Director, Robert Half, yesterday (Tuesday, 19th August, 2008) handed over the £100,000 cheque to Simon Davies, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust, at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Phil Sheridan commented: “We are very proud of the hard work and commitment our staff have shown towards Teenage Cancer Trust. They have actively dedicated their time and energy towards various initiatives to raise not only much needed funds but also awareness of this worthy cause.”
Simon Davies commented: ”I am delighted to be accepting this cheque on behalf of Teenage Cancer Trust and would like to express my thanks to Robert Half and all the staff who have worked so hard to raise this money. Six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer every day, that’s over 2,000 each year - our mission is to ensure that all these young people are given access to a specialised treatment centre which we do believe improves survival rates. This donation will certainly help us achieve this.”
Robert Half staff across the UK have been very focussed in their fundraising efforts to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Staff raised funds through auctions, quiz nights, football tournaments, marathons, fun runs and other activities.
The day room at the planned TCT unit will be a place teenagers can enjoy whilst they undergo their cancer treatment. At the same time, patients are provided with the best possible medical treatment in a recognised centre of excellence. The room will contain everything that teenagers today want - plasma screens, DVDs, games consoles, pool tables, iPods. Most importantly, it will be an environment where teenagers and young adults with cancer can meet others their age who are going through the same experience and provide support for one another.
