The world's leading specialist recruitment agency, Robert Half International, has selected Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) as its Charity of the Year for 2007. The firm is aiming to raise £100,000 to fund a day room within the new Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital, due to open in 2008.
Robert Half International's 30 branches across the UK will be taking part in various activities to help raise funds including triathlons, quiz nights, fun runs, cycles and a 24 hour sponsored famine. The partnership began officially on February 1st 2007.
Each day in the UK, 6 teenagers will find out they have cancer - that is over 2,000 new diagnoses every year. These young people often get a raw deal, receiving hospital treatment in inappropriate facilities catering for children or the elderly. TCT builds specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals. As well as providing superior medical facilities, the units allow teenagers to meet others in a similar situation. The hub of each unit is the day room. When well enough, this space allows patients to get out of their bed and socialise with others. They can watch television, play computer games or just sit and chat and do 'normal' teenage things.
Money raised by Robert Half International's employees will fund the day room at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The new TCT ward, due to open in 2008, will be state-of-the-art and will be TCT's first modular unit -it will be built off site and lifted by crane onto the roof of the Hospital.
Simon Davies, CEO of Teenage Cancer Trust said 'We are delighted to be working with Robert Half International and are so grateful for their support. Funds they are raising will really make a difference to teenagers with cancer in the Midlands.'
David Jones, UK Managing Director at Robert Half International said 'We have an ambitious fundraising target but I am confident that we will reach it. Our staff have already started lining up a number of fundraising events for the first half of this year and are all really excited about supporting such a worthwhile cause.'
