Career Benchmarking Survey

Ref. NE-00696

Robert Half Finance & Accounting and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales have launched the first survey of ICAEW members in business in the UK.

The survey interviewed over 3,000 members of the ICAEW who work in business and looks specifically at salary and bonuses for ACAs across the UK and different industry sectors, as well as issues such as stress, job satisfaction, workplace culture and career progression.

Key findings include:

  • ACAs nationally earn an average of £79.4k
  • 76 per cent of all ACAs in business receive an  annual bonus of £29k
  • Organisations are failing their staff as do not provide a clear career path
  • 68 per cent of all chartered accountants have suffered work-related stress

We look in close detail at broader issues such as motivation, the elements that provide day-to-day work satisfaction, work/life balance, corporate culture and career progression opportunities.

This survey reiterates the concept of the 'war for talent', the impact on ACAs and businesses, and how talent management and the development of a sustainable and diverse talent pool has become a key priority for organisations in the UK.
