IT Business Analyst

Profile

  1. Participate in project planning ensuring requirements / project dependencies and phasing are correctly understood and reflected in delivery plans within budget
  2. Deliver objectives by analysing business functions within service areas; gathering information; evaluating output requirements
  3. Develop a programme of work with Service Managers, Subject Matter Experts and other staff to fully understand business processes, objectives and drivers and identify where systems, processes and new and existing technology can help them improve services to customers
  4. Meet with Service Managers and other stakeholders and teams to understand, capture and document existing business process and desired changes,
  5. Lead, design and facilitate workshops, interacting with multi-disciplined teams, facilitate discussions on feasibility of process and service re-design. Working on solution design, defining business justification to ensure a clear understanding of the "why" and the "what" of the business or technical change being proposed.
  6. Using standard process modelling techniques to create the As Is and To Be picture. Construct existing and new work flow processes charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing specifications
  7. Take ownership of gathering and articulating business and technical requirements, (both functional and none functional) documenting accurately., to ensure all requirements are clear, valid and traceable to contribute to a well-defined business case and solution delivery.
  8. Proactively perform risk analysis of processes to identify weaknesses, mitigate risk through development.
  9. Deliver clear, concise and accurate user stories detailing customer or user interactions, data flow (and origin) and system interactions to support development
  10. Constructively challenge requirements and priorities to support the business in maximising benefit from the Programme
  11. Understand and fully document new requirements for solutions including software and hardware and work with stakeholders to develop their plans for implementation
  12. Provide a proactive link between The Organisation, the IT team and third parties to successfully support systems and deliver systems and technology projects
  13. Work with IT trainers and colleagues to create, develop and provide appropriate training for staff in order to help them get the most from the systems and solutions
  14. Provide advice and guidance and coach staff in business systems analysis techniques
  15. Support and maintain the Group's strategic systems interfaces as part of the IT development team, including provision of ad hoc reports as requested and participating in user groups
  16. Support user acceptance testing on system updates

Key Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of business and data analysis tools and techniques such as: requirements engineering, structured analysis and design, process mapping and component business modelling and business process re-engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to get the message across and relate to the audience
  • Manages professional relationships effectively; listens, encourages discussion and promotes two way communication
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project life cycle delivery as a business analyst in a technical environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical product management and development methodologies, underpinned by strong software design principles
  • Use and set up of Microsoft Team foundation Server - as this will be a core to managing collected data.
  • Business Process Model Notation v2.0 ideally used in Microsoft Visio Professional
  • Experience of Agile methodology
  • Experience of a variety of project management methods both iterative and waterfall, applied in business to business, or business to consumer solutions
  • Ability to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts and be able to explore them systematically
  • Strong planning and organisational skills; able to deal with competing priorities and take the appropriate course of action
  • Has high levels of resilience, able to take input and run with a task, works on own initiative, can direct others
