Financial Controller

Robert Half are delighted to be working on an exclusive basis with a fast growth, independently owned boutique house builder, based in Bristol to recruit a high quality Financial Controller for their Bristol office.

The client, who focuses on high quality, unique housing that inspires the occupant will be looking for someone with a passion for house building and an understanding of the sector or a transferable skillset from a previous role. This role will be broad and at times hands on, but will have the use of a team of transactional finance staff available to manage much of the day to day accounting, allowing the successful applicant to focus on strategy and value add business partnering at a senior level alongside the MD, Chairman and Lead Quantity Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities

The role will be varied, but will include:

  • Preparing periodic financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, variance analysis and commentaries;
  • Completing and submitting quarterly financial returns to a business partner;
  • Supervising a finance team to ensure that invoices are processed correctly and the supply chain are paid promptly;
  • Managing the day to day cash position;
  • Prepare information for the annual audit;
  • Dealing with tax matters;
  • Providing a support service to the management team to help make financial decisions;
  • Ensuring spending is kept in line with the budget;
  • Advising on the financial implications and consequences of business decisions;
  • Analysing financial performance and contributing to medium and long-term business planning and forecasts;
  • Interpreting and communicating financial data to non-financial managers;
  • Implementing corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls.

Key Skills

  • An accountancy qualification
  • Previous experience in a management accountant or similar finance role
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Professional approach to work ethics
