Payroll Assistant

Robert Half are working with a PE backed SME logistics business going through significant change and growth based in Gloucester to recruit their next Payroll Assistant. There are some really exciting opportunities available as the new CFO has brought in a high-quality finance team to help build finance's commercial capability and the business is looking at potential acquisition activity moving forward. This role will report to one of the Finance Managers within the business and will support the business growth plan by assisting in managing an ever-growing payroll.

The Role

You will be responsible for processing various payrolls for hourly paid staff including starters, leavers, salary changes, expenses, pension, and salary sacrifice items. You will be required to maintain sickness records for calculation of SSP, calculate and process SMP, compile and enter temporary payroll data. You will also be required to assist with the employee benefits administration and reconciliation of post pay run reports.

Key Duties:

  • Processing weekly payrolls, calculating gross pay, statutory deductions and statutory payments and processing starters and leavers
  • Liaising with third parties such as HMRC, TPR, CSA and DWP
  • Reconciliation of figures
  • Processing Auto Enrolment submissions
  • Providing payroll information to all relevant parties as required
  • Respond to queries in relation to pay, taxation and NI from employees
  • Comply with all statutory regulations
  • Ensure holiday and sickness is recorded and paid accurately

Your Profile

  • Experience of processing payroll - with a good understanding of payroll legislation including RTI and auto enrolment
  • Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to deal with pressure during busy periods and manage a heavy workload
