To contribute to the external reporting requirements of the Group, including the preparation of annual statutory accounts (including consolidations) and associated corporation tax computations for all Group companies.
To contribute to meeting the Group's VAT compliance requirements. To work to identifying VAT inefficiencies within the Group.
As required, to perform other external reporting requirements as they arise and fall due.
To perform Group wide calculations for a selection of costs and accounting areas on behalf of the Group and ensure these are communicated effectively across the finance team.
To work with the Group Financial Accountant to develop the controls framework within the Group.
To fully understand the role and responsibilities of the Group Financial Accountant.
To perform the calculations for the quarterly VAT returns.
To participate in VAT planning and strategic initiatives to ensure eradication of VAT inefficiencies.
To prepare and complete annual corporation tax packs for review by the GFA. To work with external tax advisors to ensure timely, effective and efficient completion of tax returns. This is to include the relevant working papers for capital allowance claims. Contribute towards completing the tax compliance process as an increasingly in-house process. To understand key tax risks in the Group in order to identify areas of potential inefficiency.
To have responsibility for the fixed asset register and related capital expenditure procedures across the Group in order to ensure accuracy and reliability in the accounting. This is to include the accurate recording of capital accruals on a periodic basis. To work with graduate finance trainee (or equivalent) to coach them within the data processing element of the fixed asset register and ensure it is maintained and up to date.
To perform and aid preparation of the pension scheme accounts.To liaise with pension scheme actuaries to ensure timely receipt of information for pension accounting and disclosures.To ensure the submission of the monthly intrastate calculation for HMRC.To perform balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner on a monthly basis - the specific reconciliations will be agreed with the GFA. To accept delegated review of Balance Sheet reconciliations which are performed by more junior members of staff.To facilitate the development of the Graduate Finance Trainee by providing coaching. This will involve the delegation of work to them, and following up with review and feedback on a timely basis.To fully understand the role and responsibilities of the Group Financial Accountant. To work and support them in related tasks as required and utilize them for the purposes of professional development
- An understanding of VAT and Corporation Tax
- An understanding of fixed assets
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office to an intermediate level
- Understanding of double-entry book-keeping
- Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software
