Led by the Head of Internal Audit and Risk Management and reporting into a fully engaged Audit and Risk Committee, the team independently offers a very broad spectrum of work to support the effective delivery of student led education whilst offering an advisory and strategic function.

About the role

Although based at the Kettering Office a substantial amount of the role will be travelling between academies and regional sites to undertake on-site audits and investigations which all will be fully reimbursed including overnight accommodation and travel.

Main Responsibilities:

The role of Internal Audit Manager for E-ACT will heavily involve performing project based audit work to provide an independent appraisal of the trust's activities.

Audit work will be performed in accordance with the IIA's International Professional Practices Framework and the ESFA's Academies Financial Handbook and will involve:

  • Drafting working papers to an appropriate standard to identify, review and ascertain compliance with policy and potential risk exposure
  • Supporting the development of the annual audit plan, advising on areas of risk or slippage
  • Ascertaining and documenting systems and procedures, risks and controls
  • Performing and documenting audit tests, understanding and analysing test results and drawing evidence based conclusions
  • Assessing value for money activities and implications
  • Providing feedback, preparing written reports containing findings, recommendations and high lighting good practice
  • Working with management to agree recommendations necessary to address specific risks identified and improve operations and to secure responses and timescales for implementation and review
  • Undertake timely follow up reviews to ascertain the extent by which agreed actions have been carried out and embedded
  • Undertake further investigatory work from audit findings or in response to audit findings
  • Undertake, or assist with, investigation work, which may include detailed analysis of records and systems, conducting interviews as requested and provide additional information, evidence, independent point of view on matters brought to the attention of the Executive Leadership Team
  • Overseeing and reviewing junior colleagues work to ensure it meets the required standards, reviewing reports and audit findings and providing assurance
  • Keep abreast of internal audit developments for the education sector through membership of professional body, contact with other auditors and reading relevant information produced externally and internally
  • Ensure that advice offered to staff is up to date and in accordance with current rules and regulations for the IIA and the trust
  • Respond to requests that support the external or internal audit functions and act as liaison for the year end processes if required

The ideal candidate

  • Experience of strategic, risk-based audit, and a track record of working on complex or sensitive topics.
  • The successful candidate will use their skills and experience to provide thoughtful assurance, advice and insight, to make a difference to the multi-academy trust at all levels.
  • The successful candidate will tailor their approach to best suit the audit topic and context, and to engage confidently and professionally with regional directors and operational staff

SALARY& BENS:

  • £45k to £50k per annum depending on skills and experience
  • Salary progression is subject to performance and there is scope for further flexibility on package depending on sector experience and skillset
  • Also on offer is access to the LGPS scheme, 30 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays and an array of other staff benefits.

LOCATION: Kettering but with regular travel to all academies in the trust.

REPORTING TO: Head of Internal Audit & Risk Management

CONTRACT: Full time, Permanent. 37.5 hours per week (9 a.m. - 5.30 p.m.)
