Kelsall Steele are a leading provider of chartered accountancy, registered audit and taxation services in Cornwall and one of the largest professional service firms in the county. They have been established for more than 70 years and offer business advice to a diverse portfolio of clients.

Position Overview
The Business Services Manager is responsible for assisting the Business Services Director in the running of the Business Services Department at both a staff and work level, whilst also performing an accounting function and maintaining their own workflow.

Essential Job Functions

 Workflow planning, supervision and support of departmental staff.

 Explore networking opportunities in order to boost client base and increase fees

 Where appropriate, spot cross selling opportunities and raise them to director.

 Review and completion of management and final accounts, tax computations, business projections including more complex accounts and tax computations

 Analysis of accounts to highlight possible financial and tax planning advice

 Ensuring compliance with ML and Practice Assurance regulations at all times.

 Management of departmental fee, output and recoverability budgets to ensure targets are met.

 Assisting team members in setting job budgets and monitoring progress towards successful achievement and recoverability.

 Awareness of department's annual and monthly fee targets so as to proactively assist director in their achievement.

 Preparation and review of Corporation Tax returns

 On occasion, training clients in the use of book-keeping packages.

 Ensure Director is aware of all team deadlines in a timely manner


 Qualified to ACCA or ACA level

 Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in order to liaise and handle relationships with staff, other managers and directors.

 Ability to effectively communicate with employees whilst maintaining a positive working relationship when addressing problems and coming up with solutions

 Good client relations essential to include excellent face to face communication skills, a professional telephone manner and excellent written communication skills

 Able to demonstrate solid accountancy knowledge, in particular limited company accounts.

 Very good knowledge of UK GAAP and international standards

 Sound knowledge of UK taxes

 Ability to work with minimal supervision and flexibility in working hours, on occasions.

 Must show commerciality at all times.

 Excellent organisational and problem solving skills

 A strong team player whilst also being able to work under own initiative

 Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload to deadlines

 Experience in the use of software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel

 Awareness of firm services and who to contact for cross selling opportunities

 Use of vehicle is essential
