The Role

The Financial Planning Analyst will own our financial planning process and software (BRIXX) model which supports the Long Term Financial Plan of the organization. But this role is much, much more.

The Financial Planner will be someone who will quickly develop a working understanding of the entire Knightstone Group - from the tiniest subsidiary to the largest operating company. Everything that Knightstone does and all its staff are effectively represented in this model. So running it in the most effective way possible is absolutely key to enabling senior management to make key strategic decisions!

You will have a central role to play in reflecting and testing the future plans of the Group, assessing and appraising strategic scenarios, testing key variables to breaking point and investigating and reporting on the options open to us to mitigate scenarios that are detrimental to the Group.

To succeed in the role you will need to be a confident communicator, have great analytical skills, have a sound grip of the construction of financial statements, show good attention to detail and have the ability to interpret and comprehend financial plan outputs and resultant ratios. We expect you to be a qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience to a high standard. Experience of financial business planning and/or working for a Housing Association in a financial capacity would also be an advantage.

The role will be supported both by the in-house expertise that we currently have, as well as, by industry-leading external consultancy where required. External training on the use of Brixx software will also be given. Together we will move the performance of the Long Term Financial Plan to a live active useable tool to perform scenario analysis for anything from 'should a development scheme be rented or shared ownership?' to 'should we keep or sell an entire portfolio of housing stock?'.

A significant amount of the work will revolve around Development so an interest in this area is key, as is the ability to work closely with numerous people across a number of teams. The successful candidate will need to develop strong relationships not only across the organization but with the Director of Resources as this role quickly gains exposure both directly and indirectly to the Executive Leadership Team and the Board.

The outputs from BRIXX are effectively balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flows and accounting ratios that tie into both to our budgets and accounting results, as well as forming the cornerstone of our regulatory returns to the HCA. So it will be important to have a strong understanding of accounts, cash flows and how each of the financial statements inform each other as well as being comfortable with data manipulation and analysis.

The role is certainly more than just BRIXX and will be well suited for someone who is interested in a varied workload that demands communication with almost all areas within Knightstone. The role is relatively new to Knightstone, so the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in shaping the role and ensure that it helps inform the business and drive decision making.

The Finance Planning Analyst will sit in the Treasury and Business Planning team within Finance and will therefore work closely with that team. The Business Plan helps to inform the future funding needs of the Group and forecast financial covenant compliance. Assisting in treasury matters from time to time will promote your understanding of both treasury aspects of the plan and key ratio outputs (financial covenants) from the plan.

Role Specifics/Your Profile

  • To take ownership of the financial model (BRIXX) supporting the Group's Long Term Financial Plan and ensure that outputs from this plan are delivered right first time in line with Group reporting requirements.
  • Provide advice, support and guidance to managers and other colleagues on any financial planning issues.
  • To check and challenge all financial inputs for the Financial Planning system.
  • To interrogate, understand and check outputs from Financial Plans and ensure that they are distributed and understood by relevant Stakeholders. Outputs to include development and asset management spend profiles, lender covenant testing, cashflow forecasting and future funding requirements.
  • To prepare scenario and stress testing and incorporate relevant outputs from the plan into executive and Board reporting as required.
  • To prepare, maintain and communicate mitigation plans in light of scenario and stress testing outcomes.

Salary and Benefits


The Finance Planning Analyst will be offered a salary between £33,314 - £36,739 + Pension, 25 days annual leave and Private Healthcare (after 5 years' service).
