As Financial Controller you will support the maintenance, operations and delivery functions of this business. It has an annual spend of circa £1bn. You will provide commercial and financial insights to the SLT.
This will be a role that requires great skill in both financial and commercial management. Only those candidates capable of seeing the bigger picture will be successful in this role given you will regularly be dealing with the senior executive team.
Based in York and reporting to the FD with a dotted line to the MD you, as the Financial Controller, will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive and quality financial and commercial services, support and advice and independently challenge the different business lines. As a member of the senior management team your focus will be on achieving the company's goals.
As a leader within the finance team, you will not only provide technical expertise and financial support to the management team but also challenge performance, initiatives and plans to achieve efficiency targets. Alongside this you will run the Monthly Business Review process for the areas under your responsibility.
Leading a large team primarily in York and Derby, you will monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities and review corrective actions taken whilst ensuring that your team is effectively resourced to deliver robust budgets, accurate forecasts and periodic reporting, review and analysis of actual results.
You will implement business planning processes and subsequently monitor action plans for the timely delivery of objectives.
To minimise the risk of loss and maximise recoveries, you will ensure that all issues are handled effectively.
Maintenance of technical standards of accounting in accordance with statutory, regulatory, HMRC and Group Policy & Regulations will require you to maintain, and establish where necessary, procedures and systems of internal control to achieve safe stewardship and integrity of all financial records.
You should be a fully qualified Accountant (from a CCAB recognised body) with strong commercial and financial acumen. You should be able to easily demonstrate how, and where, you have challenged key stakeholders, and the business, as well as provide examples of where you have added value to commercial or financial initiatives or systems. You will be proactive and personable, but be battle-hardened owing to coming from (ideally) an environment where there are robust controls and compliance.
Salary & Benefits
A good package is on offer including a base salary of circa £75,000 and benefits.
